Can you believe they kept this from you?

2023’s “Bottom of the Pomps” brought a timelessness that resonated with a certain type of listener (the type with ears and taste).  The Pomps’ perfect purple LP scrapped its way to cult fandom, and gained just enough traction for the band to say “ok, fine, one more”.

Thus, “Partial Eclipse of The Pomps” exists;  An extremely dad-coded account of family life in a horrific golden age of real estate speculation, fake money and climate catastrophe.  “Partial Eclipse”  draws from “Bottom Of’s” recipe book: 2 tone Ska, Post Punk and New Wave. But, the resulting meal doesn’t elicit the Pavlovian response of “80’s!” that accompanied its predecessor. More Organ. Less Synth. More Crunch. Less Delay. Plenty of Crooning…and…guitar solos, so many guitar solos.

It’s a political record, but, not a banal call to unity or an outlay of electoral strategy.  Lead single, “That’s Not A House”, journeys deep into the Boston suburbs to discover that the most affluent among us are doing absolutely fine (and doing their best to keep hidden). “New American Hotel” will be familiar to anybody who has had to travel in these days of private equity and private security. Album closer, “You’re Gonna Be Useless” uploads our consciousness to the cloud and…“World Full of Traps” is about a cat. A very good cat. Yes you are. Who’s a good kitty?

“Partial Eclipse of the Pomps” was recorded at Mad Oak Studios in Allston, Massachusetts in April 2024 by Benny Grotto (who also mixed it). In acknowledgment of the massive annuity that co-ownership of “Bottom of the Pomps” continues to remit, Bad Time Records is once again climbing on board to release the record, and will do so on February 21, 2025.
